Dr. Terry Newman recently joined Partners in Primary Care bringing over 25 years of healthcare experience to the team.
She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She later graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston.
Dr. Terry Newman’s has always had a passion to improve the quality of life of others, and this desire is what really drew her early on to become a Family Physician. Dr. Newman believes that by guiding her patients and providing them with preventative health education they’ll feel empowered to take charge of their health. She emphasizes the importance of fostering long-term relationships with her patients and their families that’s built on mutual trust and open communication. That’s why she takes her time to listen and get to know their individual health concerns and goals so that together they can work to establish a medical care plan that addresses her patients’ needs. She chose Partners in Primary Care, because she felt their multidisciplinary team and patient-centered approach work hand in hand to address the patient’s needs and encourages patient participation in their own health care journey.
Dr. Newman has received several awards including the UTMB TOP DOC Community Faculty Award for teaching medical students, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation for Medical Student Instruction as a Community Faculty. She has received numerous Certificates of Appreciation for serving as a Health Fair Speaker in her community for many years.
Dr. Newman has donated her skills to serve healthcare needs as a medical missionary with Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the country of Cabaret, Haiti. Each trip the team serviced 800-900 Haitians mainly women, infants and children. On one trip the church/school building was dedicated to the community along with a water well.
Dr. Newman’s professional associations include the Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Academy of Family Physicians,Texas Academy of Family Physicians and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., A Service Sorority Founded in 1913.
When she’s not at the office, Dr. Newman enjoys cooking at home, spending time with her family, planning trips and adventures with her husband and son and engaging in Biblical studies.
